It all depends on the skimmer. I wouldn't go get the biggest deltec but any of the css shouldn't be a problem.

I am currently using a HOB overflow, I will never do it that way again. Im not saying that i have problems with it but just that the internal overflow is more reliable.

Having one doesn't make one less important. You will save yourself a lot of time money and headach if you get a good skimmer, and invest in a RO/DI unit.

they are not made to be turned off and back on over and over. I don't clean mine that offen and whenever the power flickers i have to check them because they probably didn't start back up.

If the skimmer is direct fed from you overflow then bubbles can affect the performance of the skimmer.

I use mag drives for my return and my Aqua C and don't have problems with them but i believe that the Ehiems use less energy and might run cooler than the danner pumps.

Yeah they are making at the Oceanic salt facility now. The new salt has a new lid (like the oceanic lid) and also doesn't have the bag in the bucket.

Just run it all the time. If it isn't performing like it used to then it probably needs a good cleaning. The only way it could remove calcium, iodine or other elements is if it is just pulling out...
