Mag-drive or Ehiem pump

I have many mag-drive pumps which have been causing me problems with not starting after water cleaning and turing off the pump, and also on my aqua-c protein skimmer. Just today I changed the water in one of my tanks and another mag-drive wouldn't work. It was because the whole impeller and the plastic on the inside was ripped apart. This was probably my fault but now it might be time to get a new pump and I'm wondering if I should stick to mag's or try ehiems.
I want to know if they are worth the extra money and why?
If they have good customer sevice and back up their guarantee?
Or if they arent worth the extra money.

Thanks

I use mag drives for my return and my Aqua C and don't have problems with them but i believe that the Ehiems use less energy and might run cooler than the danner pumps.

Eheims are known for running problem free for (in some cases) years on end. I'm gonna try out one on my latest build.

I have always ran Mag pumps, I have 4 running in my 125. I have never had one fail. But I hear way to many people talking about Eheims being awesome for it not to be true.

I dont think I have ever heard a bad thing about an Eheim, but I have never owned one. I ended up going with the mag 7 because it was cheaper and my budget wouldnt allow me to go with the Eheim (I could have but I would have had to go with a smaller skimmer and I figured that the bigger skimmer was a better investment). If I had the budget for one, I would get one.

I used both Mag drive and Ehiem of comparable output, and I've been happier with the Ehiem. The Ehiem's have been quieter and the tank is .8F lower with the Ehiem than when I used a Mag. FWIW, I had a Mag on the Aqua C Urchin and put an Ehiem on it. Ehiem's have a good reputation here in Japan (They also cost double than in the states!)

Does mag-drive have a customer support email and webpage? I tried looking for the replacement parts, but it needs not only a new impeller, but a new plastic part that screws on the front.

I have an Eheim 1260 (I think?) that's been running for 10 years, never had a problem. The Mags take a lot of energy but I have a few of those as well.

If you have the cash for the Eheim, its an incredible pump.

The mag does have cheap replacement parts though. I've used Mags in small ponds (heat is not such a big deal with several thousand gallons ) but found I need to replace parts every other year, and sometimes the whole pump.

Mags are OK, but Eheims are a lot better. Much quieter, better headloss performance and therefore, better flow. Super reliable.

I've never seen a complaint about Eheims, but I've heard mags can be loud and run warm.

I have used both also , and as long as cost is not a major factor, I would go with Eheim over Mag any day

Look at the Ocean RUnner line too. Theyre just as quiet as the Eheims, are MUCH more electrically efficient, have higher head heights, and cost about 1/3 of what an Eheim does.

Eheim and/or the OR pumps are th way to go. Mags are not bad pumps can't match the benefits the Eheims or the OR pumps have to offer.
