Volts don't kill, it's amperage. Alternating current (wall outlet) is also much more deadly than the DC coming out of your ballast.

IMO 175w is already overkill for a 29. Not sure why you think you need more light (you don't), but if you want more get a spider reflector. However, this could lead to light shock of your inverts.

I did the same thing for a Trachyphillia...
I did the same thing for a Trachyphillia (spelling?) that survived and grew like crazy afterwards. Just remember to keep feeding after it's healthy, as well!
