A sister site would be a better idea. I'd vote yes to that.

Me too. I like that search here doesn't give totally useless crap the way a few other `both kinds' boards do. Enough useless crap here already [j/k]

There's no reason for it. This site is focused specifically for saltwater aquaria. If you're too lazy to go search for FW boards, then cope with it...but there's no reason to "dilute" this one.

Here's some of the better FW boards out there:

i agree with the above...

when i had my chiclids... i had no problem at all finding some boards to ask questions on...

all you have to do is look...

IMO... freshwater was boring once i started my reef... i gave away most of my stuff to friends...

Anyone want some 6" assorted african chiclids? LOL

ImO... the only good fresh water tank is a planted tank...

I see no reason to attack,I also do not see it an issue of being lazy, the point is very simple.RC has 38,461 members, thats a lot of people with experience in the aquatic hobby

That is the FW sister forum.

I'm not attacking, just replying to what seemed like an "I don't want to have to go somewhere else to get a question answered so why can't we just start up a few more forums here" statement.

How many members here jump around between multiple boards with little to no difficulty? And those are strictly reefkeeping boards! You get better and more precise and focused attention/advice with more specialized forums. IME, when you see places that cover FW, SW, carnivorous plants, reptiles, dendrobates, and the occasional finch all in one bulletin board, you rarely ever scratch the surface of that given area or husbandry of the animal. More specialized boards appeal to more specialized hobbyists. You want FW? Go to a BB that deals specifically with FW because those guys are going to be dang near experts on the iron uptake of stem plants in such and such a substrate.

Like I said, don't "dilute" this one with un-related forums. It wasn't an attack, but an honest opinion. I'm not against FW, I just don't think it belongs here. As I suggested, I visit strictly FW boards for those discussions.

LOL,maybe it's just how I read the words without emotion.
FWIW,I do both FW and SW tanks.I do belong to another board for FW,but I have yet to see an aquarium forum for FW that has 38,461 members,if every member in this board had only six months in the hobby, just six months...this would be 19230 years of experience...
Now dont get me wrong cause I do get your point, and it is a very good point at that

there is an intrinsic difference between saltwater and freshwater tanks...(in general)

a.) freshwater fish as a whole are a hell of a lot easier to keep
b.) Freshwater tanks and a much smaller investment (for the most part)
c.) you dont need to know much to keep a FW tank...

D.) there is just as much info on planted tanks and discus as there is here on other fw boards....

and lastly... and just my opinion... freshwater fish are boring... after my reef was up i totaly lost intrest in them because they are not all that attractive as a whole.. dont have much personality...

i just lost intrest... and i dont think as many people are interested in sharing info on setting up a molly tank because its easy to do... and somewhat boring...
