Freshwater Forum?

Thought it might be nice to have a Freshwater Forum here since most of us came from Freshwater, and some still have them.
I'm not saying create 10 different sub forums like lighting, breeding etc.. Just 1 Freshwater questions Forum. Many people here are very knowledgeable in this area.
I rather stay here to ask those questions rather than go somewhere else.

Just an idea!

Thanks.

Nope, it just indicates that we all have lives outside the board

We have been asked about this in the past but have decided it is not something we want to do at this time. Thanks for your feedback.

why not? this place has so many people and in almost all of there signetures they say FW 3 yrs. or somthing like that. having a freshwater catagory, even if its just one would help out a lot of the newbies and also let you depend on one forum site to get all your info instead of 2 or 3.

Because this is ReefCentral, and we pride ourselves on doing that one area right. If we added a FW area, it would really require the focus, attention to detail, and resources that we've put into this site to "do it right." In other words, just one forum wouldn't really cut it, and we don't have the resources to do it the way we'd like to see it done. So, rather than dilute RC with a not-up-to-our-standards addition, we choose to leave the FW arena to others who can do it well.

FWIW,
Kevin

What about starting a Freshwater Central? Me and a friend of mine were thinking about this. However we wouldn't start it without permission, since the name is strongly similar to Reef Central. I personally don't have enough money to start such a board but I think it would be a great future project.

I was thinking the same thing since I am starting a discus tank and have been looking for something similar to RC for FW. I will check out the Fish Forum, but I doubt its up to par with RC. Thanks Gus.

Glad I did the search and found it. Looked around a bit, ended up bookmarking it for my wife as she still has FW. No, not as good as RC...but what is?

Question How many wish R.C. had s fresh water forum as well ??

I'm sure a lot of you have a fresh water set up as well as a salt water, with as many people that belong to RC it seems to be a waste of good knowledge not to have a fresh water forum as well.
I was just wondering how many of you would agree ??
it just seems to me that RC is only at 50% and if it covered FW as well it would be our one stop forum..

I would love a equipment-selling part for Freshwater at least ... now that I've dismantled my FW stuff and don't want to have to search for a good place to sell that stuff.

I voted yes, but would be scared that would really mess up my searching ability [I like RC because searching for stuff does not find FW info ... like on Ich or lighting or ...]. Not that I don't like FW people - but sometimes that overlap kills search and other features - and allows for new flamers to join.

Just my 2 cents.

They won't do one understandably because they feel in order to do it right it would require more than just one Freshwater Forum, at least that is what was explained to me when I asked about a Freshwater forum. Whether I agree or not I am not sure but I can certainly understand them wanting to take care of the people that come here mainly for they're Reef's. Nothing wrong with that.

That's a no-brainer, absolutely not. This site is called 'Reef Central.'

There is no 'one-stop forum' that will cater to everyone's hobbies. Not everyone has the same hobbies. Probably as many people on here fly RC helicopters and keep geckos as keep freshwater tanks. Should RC start forums for those hobbies?

Also, there is nothing saying you can't sell freshwater equipment in the selling forum anyway. I've seen people selling/trading all kinds of random stuff there.

With all due respect, I think this is a bad idea.

How about a list of people who wouldn't mind being PM'd with Freshwater questions.

We could register freshwaterisforsissys.com and start our own.

This is of course tongue in cheek and not meant to offend sissy's anywhere.

Wouldn't it be called TANK CENTRAL then? Doesn't seem to sound as good... not to mention, most reefers have suffered through Fresh Water long before becoming reef heads.

Then it wouldnt be REEF central now would it? It would be "Reef and other freshwater things from the suggestion of a board member in the reef forum", and how would you like to type that in your bar everytime? But a "FreshwaterCentral" would be cool, with cichlids, rainbows, peaceful, etc.

simply aquatic, sad nothing about helicopters, geckos or even beer drinking(another bobby of mine).
ok,so it sounds to me like maybe a sister forum would be good, this way whenm ya do a search under substrate you'll not get stuck with threads about plant soil.
I mean for example,I just love aquatics, fresh water planted and salt water reef,it is still the same hobby
keep it clean babee. there are lots of other FW forums you can check out.
a sister forum would do just that.
