Properly "welded" acrylic seams are many times stronger than silcon on glass. But they have to be because the acrylic has much more give.
I just can't stand the scratches that acrylic will get....

During the evolution of my tank plan I came out with a sump that is too large. I figured I would just have it stick out the back end of the stand. Tank is 24" cube, sump is 30Lx18Hx12W....
