New Tank

Howdy all! Thanks to all those who gave my old inhabitants good homes from my last system. We are finally settled in to the new home and I've gotten an opportunity to start on the new tank. Thought I would give all of you an update on my latest project.

That looks like it's going to be one sweet tank. I hope you keep us updated here. Are you going to keep those closed loops on all the time or have them turn off and on through out the day/night?

I plan to have them run 24-7. I have 4 sea swirls located on the back of the tank which should keep stirred up and in a random manner. I'm planning on SPS this time around so I increased the flow not only up high in the tank but also down lower. My last tank fell short on current down low if you remember and I didn't want to make the same mistake this time around. I'm also planning on a much more open aquascape as well. I'll make sure to post more pictures as time rolls by.

First you would have to come to Omaha, help clean the refugium, scrape coraline off the acrylic display, remove the tile off the top of the lagoon so it could be redone, trim out the new inwall, wash my new car, clean the garage and then you can have one back.....and not that ONE....

Just to set the record straight for everyone reading this thread...I agreed to do all the things Huskerreef mentioned. Just to prove I'm a man of my word I've enclosed a picture of me cleaning his 1000 gallon lagoon!

Make sure to let me know when you are here and we can hook up! I'll be sure I'll at least have water in the tank by then!

I think you should fill it with nothing but anenomes and haves schools of clowns. Have just one massive colony of bubble tips! Either that or your own aiptasia farm.

Here's an update from this week. Just completed the lighting hood. I wanted to have alot of access on this tank from the front and back so I put the whole lighting system on rails. This picture shows the aluminum rails being constructed.

[IMG][/IMG]

Here's a picture of the hood over the tank with 3 Luminarc reflectors in place. The light ballasts will ride on top of the hood.

[IMG][/IMG]

Here's a shot of the hood pulled out of the way to access the tank.

Wow Tom, thats a great idea. I was thinking about using a pulley system when I get my in-wall system done, but the rail idea looks like it would be much sturdier. I see you already have plug sockets on the ceiling, you must of had a good plan going in to this. I might have to rethink some of my plans.

Thanks...yeah I've been planning this since before my last tank. I've taken ideas and plans from others I've seen and until now really haven't had the space to do things the way I wanted. The rails I used haven't been easy to locate ( I had to go to a farm supply store) but it was worth the wait. So far it looks like it should work well. I tried to plan for added things such as equipment ect so I tried to put plenty of outlets in to handle the future "toys".

Ya, I'm looking foward to seeing it up and running too!! I'm waiting to hear back on some water issues I'm having with the well water on the property. It looks as if that is coming to a close and then I'll finish things up and the water will flow. Just for some eye candy, I'll post a pic of a store's display tank in the northern burbs of Chicago that I've been to a few times. This is the reason I've decided to go sps this time around. The colors in this tank are unreal!!
