Golden Dwarf Moray Eel
Hey guys,
I would like to purchase a relativlely small eel for my 325 gallon aquarium which I have ordered. Reason for wanting a small species is the fact that my mother does not want a big " snake " in your house haha So I got her to agree I could get a small one. So please list which eels stay relativley small. Aswell how hard is it to find dwarf golden morays? As well as how much do they go for? Thanks, Brenden |

I think a snowflake would be a good option for that tank, usually around 2' and a fraction of the cost of a golden dwarf.
As far as cost on a Golden Dwarf... $200 would be a great bargan. |

you can get dwarf morays at justrarefish.com for $125.i paid $200 for mine a couple years ago.just make sure you have the tank completely covered or they will find a way out.i found out the hard way besides that they are awesome little eels for a reef tank.im actually planning on buying two of them once i get my 240reef up and stable.

46bfinGA - How active was yours? Did it swim around alot or mostly hang around inside your rock structurs?

I'd recommend trying out a Green Wolf Eel (C. subducens). It's not a true eel, but rather a pseudochromis, and reaches a maximum length of 18" which is smaller than the Snowflake Eel. They look very much like an eel, but they have pectoral fins, gill covers, and scales. They come in a variety of greens/yellows/browns and tend to change their color slightly with mood and surrounding enviornment.
C. subducens is very active in my experience, more so than my green spotted puffer was, and very interactive. I'd just make sure that all the fish in the tank are too large to fit it it's mouth and that you don't keep it with any crabs or shrimp, it's diet will consist of them. Not an eel, but looks like an eel, act like an eel, smaller than most eels, and a fine choice. =) |

rarely seen unfortunately, usually will only see a head sticking out. except for feeding time i could usually hoax him out of his rock that he lived in. he would come out at night when the lights are off sometimes. im hoping with two that i will have a little more activity. very cool eel though and when he did come out it was well worth it. i agree with Dave Legacy, the green wolf eels are alot more active if thats what you are going for and alot cheaper. but they do get a bit larger and may knock over some stuff. the dwarf golden eels you wont have to worry about any of that. |
