Here we are at over 9 months 24g Aquapod

Ok, here we are now at over 9 months and going strong. I have a high bioload and am only keeping hardy specimens because of this. I feel bad that I lost my red brain coral, it was doing great until someone kept moving it around. I would find it in a different place even after only a few hours, I have no idea who was moving it around, but who every it was destroyed it. My green brain is doing well, I have had that brain for 3 years now moving from tank to tank over the years.

Here are a couple of new pictures from today.

just out of curiousity, did you modify your aqua pod at all, or did you just buy it, take it out of the box, fill it and go?

i've been thinking about picking one up, but i've read some complaints from some people...

yours looks great though! i don't want to bother with any mods so if you have had that success w/o extra mods it would def. encourage me to buy one

Thanks NickP123!

Algundo: The Aquapod is completly sealed and my Eel or he would definately try. He has flopped out twice during feeding when he get's excited and won't let go of the feeding stick when he get's hold of it sometimes. He is a great little tank mate though, and minds his own business.

notyet: It is standard, I am not using the ceramic bio circles that came with it, just the sponge filters and the return it came with. I do have the MJ900 in the middle there for some extra water movement, since I don't think the stock pump gives it enough water movement.

Have you ever thought of gluing some zoos to the maxi-jet to make it blend in a little more?

Stuff may grow on to it over time, but I just don't have good luck with Zoa's since they come and go as they please at times.

I absolutely love your snowflake and I'm looking at setting up a 24 Aquapod as well shortly. Couple of questions though: is the 24 gal enough for him, or are you planning on moving him to a bigger tank after awhile? Also, how are your nitrates/ites doing with him in there? TIA.

They say that you should have a 30g minimum for a snowflake Eel, I had this guy in a 10g nano about 2 1/2 years ago when I first got him. He was only about 7-8" at that time, where he is about 18-20" right now. I will eventually be setting up a 50-90g cube depending on what I decide, but that is still a year or two off. I would think a smaller one would be fine for a couple years in a 24g Aquapod, mine is doing very well and he is pretty darn big.

I don't suggest you put a lot of fish in with yours if you get one, just 2-3 tops where I have 6 fish in mine. My nitrites are at zero, but my nitrates run on the average around 20ppm or even a little more at times and that is with a weekly 4g water change.

Great looking Aquapod 24. I also have one, and I agree that there just isn't enough flow in the tank without an additional powerhead. I may have to upgrade mine, was using a 600. I really want a snowflake but I have too many fish in there right now.

That doesn't sound too bad at all. Are you running a skimmer?

No, I don't run a skimmer, just the stock system with the added MJ900 powerhead.

That tank looks nice, i like the way you have that setup. But i think it would be a bit small for the snowflake eel.

Thanks Everyone!

That is the one funny thing about this hobby, what one person can do, another possibly will fail. Even though we try to help other's do what were doing when they ask our methods for success, it does not always work, or the results are slightly different. Everyone finds there own path in this hobby on what works best for them, and that of course happens over time, you just can't give up if your having problems because eventually everyone finds there own way.

How is the tank doing RJ? I'm making some progress on mine. I finally got water in it yesterday and one little rubble piece with a xenia frag right in the middle just for laughs. Yesterday I also replaced that single fan (way too loud in my office) with two really quiet fans...

Today I'm going to pick up a couple of timers for the lights and some sort of plug-in GFCI since I don't want to replace the wall socket in my office...

I'm also probably going to replace the stock pump with an MJ1200.

Well, my 24G pod is running too hot. It's in our office which is kept pretty comfortable at around 76F. When I come in every morning, the tank is at about 82F and at the end of the light cycle the tank is at about 85F.

Today my MJ 900 and Hydor Flo arrived. Hopefully that will help get the temperatures down some. I hope the Hydor Flo isn't noisy... It looks pretty cool but also seems like it is made kind of cheap, doesn't seem like it will last very long. I'll be surprised if it lasts more than a year or two.
