Rethinking coral selection
Been at this 2.5 years now, and yes I have a hodpoge collection of corals. 120 gl display, 90 gl prop tank, 90 gl fuge, 100 gl stock tub sump, 380 gl total system volume. Cant keep stoney coral!?!?!?. Live 2 to 6 months then die. LFS owner sudgest that xenia and sinulara in the same system is the problem. All paremeters are good. Temp 78, ca 420, alk 11, orp 360 to 380, plenty of flow 2 x tunze 1660s, maristar 2 x 250 hqi lighting. Coral list, Zenia, Colt, mushrooms, GSP, frogspawn, hammer, torch, candy cane, numereous zoos, flourescent green pollop leather (our favorite) and several sick stoneys. zenia, sinulara, and colt are going. What else needs needs to be banished to
be sucessfull with stoneys.

"Zenia, Colt, mushrooms, GSP, frogspawn, hammer, torch, candy cane, numereous zoos, flourescent green pollop leather (our favorite)"
Everything there but the zoos and candy cane can put out chemicals in the water that are meant to kill other corals. The term is allelopathy and Id be willing to bet thast why your having problems. This si why the idea of a "mixed" tank is discouraged. They just dont play well. All you can do to combat it is to run carbon 24/7. |
