Post Want honest opinion from those who have corner overflows (RR tanks)

Hi. I am looking to contruct a 120g (48x24x24) full reef and I am considering going with a AGA with 2 corner overflows.

I am wondering from those out there that have something similar what your thoughts are on the matter.
Meaning, if you had to buy another tank would you go this same route or would you rather try something else.

My intention is to take up as little in tank space as possible (however I dont like the fact that pvc can be seen from the sides) I would love to go calfo but cant afford to have pipes running through the back (just dont have enough front space to spare)

I will also be adding a closed loop for extra circulation.

Thank you in advance for all your input.

IMO, the corner overflows are the best looking overflows in a RR design. They take up much less space and are much less noticeable than the newer megaflows. The downside is you can see into them from the side. You have to cover it with black plexi or wood to match your stand canopy.

I had a 90 with a corner overflow. I never liked looking at it in the tank. I moved and thought it was the perfect time to address the issue. I got an acrylic tank built with an external overflow. Works great and takes NO room up in the tank. I really like it. I've seen a few others with this on here.

Agree the external overflows are the best looking since they are pretty much invisible. Next would be a horizontal "Calfo" overflow. But in a RR design, I think corners are the best looking.

I agree. It is awesome, however as previously mentioned I am already adding 6" to the area where I currently have my tank and just about 9" if you count a custom stand I am making. I just cannot afford another 3-4 for an external overflow.

I've got a corner overflow with durso standpipe, and I really like it. I used to have a hang on overflow but it was always requiring some adjustments or at least was not as reliable as what I've got now. After awhile, I don't even notice it anymore. Very happy with it, and probably would set up future tanks either this way or possibly calfo.

My thoughts about an overflow:

-noisy
-is it worth having a sump(leaks)
-good gas exchange crashing down.
-Need to use filter bag to trap dirt and food that goes down it.
-good for surface skimming organics
-hide the heater down there
-Durso stand pipe(noise)
-salt spray in sump

thats some things running through my mind

I bought a 210 Oceanic with corner overflows... Didn't like it. Not enough water flow and took up WAY too much real estate inside the tank in my opinion. So I cut them out, plugged the bottom holes, drilled the back of the tank and went with Calfo overflows. Looks MUCH better and LOTS of flow now! I also went with a closed loop on top of this.

The Oceanics I've seen have HUGE box corner overflows, not the small 45 degree overflows like AGA. But yeah, the Calfo style overflows are really nice.

I have a 120 gallon with two corner overflows (Perfecto came with durso pipes). I think they are great. Yes, you might lose some tank space, but syou can also put the tank much closer to the wall, which is very nice.

You could always cover the side of the tank where you see the overflow; I was thinking about a very light piece of wood (perhaps balsa wood) painted the same color as the stand and hood - adhere to the tank with glass with velcro. Then you can remove easily if you need to visually check the overflow.

I love my corner overflow.. then again, the overflow is in the corner of the room so it is hidden... seems to blend in more.
