wet/dry transition
hi everyone, trying to make the transition from a wet/dry setup to a refugium/sump setup. i currently have a cpr 900 w/d with bio balls, a 2100 rio for return. how do i convert this to where i'll have a filtration and refugium without the use of bioballs at the same time without losing any benificial bacteria from filter. thanks

I replaced my bioballs w/ LR rubble.. but you have to take out the bioballs slowly over the course of a couple weeks or so.. maybe more.. hopefully someone else can chime in.

10% of volume of bioballs removed every 3 days. Increase LR in tank or sump. After 30 days all bioballs are gone!
Maybe PufferFish87 has something there with replacing it with LR rubble (or baserock). I would just remove the bioballs and increase the LR in the sump or main tank slowly.
