Maintaining a high ph....how do you do it?

Two questions really. I am battling this brown tuft algae. Very nasty stuff that everything so far won't eat. One poster suggested maintaining a ph of 8.4 to 8.6 to promote the coralline and slow the algae progression. Does this seem reasonable? If so, then how do I do it? I realize I can just start adding a bunch of kalwasser but doesn't that also throw the alk out of wack? Is there a way to maintain a high ph and keep all my other parameters where they are supposed to be? Right now my parameters are around:

ph 8.08-8.23
alk 7.9-8.5
cal 400
nitrates undetectable
phosphates undectable.

I have a phosban reactor in my sump along with carbon. I am adding a second phosban reactor next week since the phosban 150 is a little small for a 180g.

Let me know your ideas on ph. Thanks.

John
