Need Help!

I've got 175 gallons of MILK!! Or so it seems.

Anyone happen to have a canister filter I could borrow, with a GOOD filter that can help me get rid of this sand cloud?

I've got 100 Micron filter pad, and it isnt making a dent!!

HELP!!!

if this is from southdown then wait it out mine took 5 days to clear and you really dont want to loose that "mud" thats some of the best stuff in the bags

I'm using a mix of Aragamax, and Pure Caribean Araganite.

Steve Chang has the PCA down at Reef N Pond for 19.95 a 40lb bag.

I set up Saturday, and it is still pretty cloudy today

We had the same problem (as most people do when setting up DSB) although it only took about a day to clear up. We first used a Diatemaceous (sp?) Earth filter, but it really didn't clear up until after we added our live rock.... don't worry, the sand storm won't kill it

After reading more literature about it (it might have been Dr. Ron's booklet on DSB) , it turns out that the "milk" is caused by the super fine particles (ones that are essential for optimum DSB function). They are so small, and only settle when they are coated with bacteria (seeded from the live rock) and are heavy enough to go to the bottom.

Anyway, my $0.02

UPDATE:

I took the 3 of the 4 inches of Sand from my 29G Q-tank, and dumped it into my new tank. After that, it started clearing up. By last night I could see through it, and today, it is a lot clearer.

Good thing too, because I'm heading out to DIA tonight to pick up my new 100Lbs of Live rock!!
