Orange ric

Pink striped ric

Orange zoas

Pink and green zoas

Wild acro

Anyone have tips on how to better adjust white balance while taking actinic shots? I white balanced to a plug of epoxy I had in the tank for these shots.

Camera is a sony cybershot F-717, and no tripod since I can get close enough to get nice macros with the tripod's leg getting in the way.

Steve, lengthen one leg of the tripod and tilt the tripod forward more onto the front two legs. I've even set mine up with the third "leg" of the tripod being the lens against the glass.

Haha..too funny, I was reading gregr's explanation of the aperature and shutter speed and was trying to describe to him my dilemma of not being able to get close enough wiht the tripod and I suddenly realized the same thing as you posted Now I just need to find a way so I can shoot the upper 2/3 of my tank since I have a 4' tall stand and by using this method, I can only get about 1/3 of the way up the front glass...guess it's time for making that wishlist of gifts

Thanks for all the compliments I'm learning how to use some of the more advanced features of the camera still and also playing around with PS. Hopefully there'll be some more photos I can post soon.

The main lights went out and I only have the T-5 actinics on when I saw one of my candycanes wide open. And what an opportunity to try out the tripod leaning on the glass trick. This way I can keep the shutter open longer without getting the alcohol withdraw effect (motion effect from shaking for those that might have missed my lousy humor ) Of course I had to keep the aperature wide open and although I tried to keep the ISO as low as possible, I still got gains in the photo. But here's the final product after PS...man I love this program (giggling like a little girl....hehehehe)

for the white balance trick, it was said somewhere on the forum to set the balance using a plain white coffee filter. seems to work quite well.
