Bristle Worms Throwing Up

Yesterday I had just finished doing a 10% water change in my 20g and caught out of the corner of my eye a plume of stuff rising from the bottom of the tank. It came from a bristle worm. In the span of about ten minutes about a dozen bristle worms rose up vertically and spit out some stuff in the water. After a few minutes everything seemed normal and none of the corals or fish seemed to suffer any ill effects.

I do check temp, salinity, Ph, Kh and calcium of the old water and new water prior to a change. And I use the premixed stuff so I think it is fairly consistent in terms of parameters which I do not test. But what could cause this strange behavior?

I did do the water change in the morning and I usually do it late afternoon.

I totally agree- what is a question is if you stressed them to force the spawn , or if it was just coincidence

I would guess the water change stimulated the response; maybe they thought it was an unusually high tide, or a rainstorm, or whatever stimulates them to breed. Maybe they were just feeling sassy!
