Tank with out a filter, How Long?

How long could a tank stay habitable without a filter, i was wondering cause im gonna be setting upgrading from a 46 to a 100 in the next while.

Do you mean you dont have a filter now, or wont have one for a little while after the switch?


Btw a yellow, and hippo tank in a 46?....

i didnt bother to look at the stock list, its not going to last anytime without a filter!

i mean im gonna switch my sump from the 46 to 100 but im gonna keep the skimmer on and the fish in, while i set up the water, ill have the 46 off for 1-1.5 days

i am not telling you to do it...... but i lost power for atleast a 24 hr period and was very scared, but every thing made it through. i would try to get it done in less then that but i think it might work

What kind of filter are talking about because I run my 30 gal. reef with no manual filtration at all. just live rock macro and water changes.

as long as you have good water flow and plenty of oxygen you should be fine for a few days without a skimmer or other filtration. i would probably do a few small water changes during the down time just to be safe.

I just got done moving and kept 5 chromiis, a regal blue tang, 2 ocellaris clowns, 2 yellow wrasse, and two types of gobies in a 30g trash can with a AC300 on it for 3 days. No deaths. No ich either, but then again there's no ich present to infect anything in my system.

I've had mine quit on me when i was on vacation and the people checking the tank didnt kn ow what to do about that, but left it. It was off for a week and a half
