more details on plumbing and specifically the overflow and size of drain bulkhead and return bulkheads, and how the flow is? im thinking of doing the same soon with a 10 gallon sump.

did you build the over flow? if so out of what and what size? you using a standpipe?

gfk, I'll take some pics of the plumbing soon and post them with the sump,etc...

I believe the drain hole is drilled 1.25" or 1.5"

I have a durso standpipe that is 1.25" which drains to a 1" line to the sump. I have my skimmer, then fuge, then mag 7 return.

I have pretty good flow with the 2 return lines, blows pretty strong. I am thinking about either adding a Y to each return, or adding another pump for a closed loop, or just a MJ 1200.

I had a tunze 7300 w/controller but it was kind of bulky and too strong. I don't think I need too much more flow, I like it.

A fellow reefer built the overflow box out of black acrylic, and it works awesome! Looks better than predrilled RR tanks I would say. I don't know exact size but I'll let you know when I take some pics.

I love the setup so far though

What did you hang your pendant from? I'd rather do something like you did than hang the fixture from the ceiling.

Preparing for Hurricane Katrina, with extra water, batteries, hopefully I can rig some backup battery thing to power some of those powerheads! Any suggestions?

Your tank is looking good. I would store up a little more water to help ride out the aftermath of Katrina. How are you going to handle cooling it must be pretty hot down there?

keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Good luck.

personally i reccomend getting rid of half of those "plainly shaped" rocks and supplementing the rocks gone with some marshall island rock...more "holey" and porous...JMO

I have a power inverter and 12v battery to power my pumps/powerheads. Maybe I'll put a fan on it, but I don't know yet how I'm going to keep it cool.

Maybe I'll refridgerate the RO water?

Hurricane Prep Stuff

Looks like Katrina is going to hit hard, have to prepare with what I can since I can't afford a generator nor do I have space for it. We'll see how it goes....
