Urgent - pods in a bottle!

Pods are in a little bottle, and they're too small to catch with my crappy green net. I have no brine shrimp nets yet, so how can I get all of them without getting the water they're into my tank??

Thanks!

Hmm....not sure why you don't want the water in your tank. Is it your water? Anyway, I guess you could pour them in a nylon stocking. Of course, the brine shrimp nets would be easier. Can't ya wait till you get a net?

Use a tea leaf strainer over a small bole.

if it's the pods in a bottle that you order, i thought it was o.k. to just ump in the whole bottle, the pods are waaaaayyyyyy to small to try to net.....i've dumped all in before with no ill affects,,,,,,,,,,,(i hope),,,,,,,,,,,,,lisa

If you have Oceanpods or Seapods or one of the purchased pod cultures, just float the bottle a few minutes to equalize the temp and then pour the whole thing into your tank. Straining them will be WAY more work than needed.

I feed my tank a bottle a week and have never had a problem using either of the ones named above.

You can also get a plankton sieve from InlandAquatics.com, although a filter bag might work well enough for one-time use.

angelsil -- do you have to get the bottled pods weekly for your manderin???? i figured a 125 with lots of rockwork would support it's own pod population with occasional "repodding" ????
i'm curious because i'm trying to work towards a manderin for my 75gal.. i do have a 10gal fuge that gravity feeds back to the display,,, and was hoping not to have to repod but 3-4 times a year....am i undersetimating the amount of pods it will take to keep a happy manderin????
hope this isn't considered a hyjack, it's along the same line of interest....
thanks a lot,,,,,,,,,,,lisa

You feed your tank a bottle a week!? My bottle was like 30 bucks! How do you afford that every week!?

My mandarin has a higher food budget than I do...

Yes, I've been feeding her about a bottle a week to get the tank and pod farm good and seeded. I don't plan on keeping that up past this week, which will make it about 5 weeks. I also got 2 liters of pods from aquaculturestore.com which was far more affordable for the amount (I think it was around 40 bucks for the 2 liters) and that seemed to really juice the pod farm. For a 75 with a fuge, I would think you could get by with seeding it a few times a year for 1 mandarin.

To give you an idea of how much these guys (and gals) eat - mine has already done serious damage to the population in the display in 3 weeks. There are still pods in there, but noticeably less.

If you don't trust the water, strain it thru a coffee filter...

Coffee filter I feed my madrin fresh water pods I have a kio pond and the veggie filter is loaded with them I shake some roots till I get a quarter cup They live around 2 hours in the big tank between all the fish feeding on them they are gone in a1/2 hour They seems to reproduce faster than the salt water variety. I still have salt water pods but Found this was one way to him fattened up most you buy from the store have not eaten in while and are on the decline
