black lacquer - any one know which one this is?
I have to modify this canopy so I need to find a matching lacquer for it. I was hoping someone here would know which it is. I've seen this stand/canopy combo at a few fish stores. It's a shiny black lacquer. I have this cruddy picture... doubt it will help too much... but here it is

black enamal, to match, depending on the wood. get a putty type wood filler, warm it and rub it into the pores very hard. light sand to 200 grip. sanding sealer, sand to 200, another coat of sealer, sand to 300. primer, sand to 300, black enamal, very light, two coats.. and to 300, repeat, i've used 20 + coats on piano finish, when your reflections are not distorted, sand to 400, 4 + coats of poly, sand to 600 or even higher, i have used 1200 and up.. that finish is one of the hardest to get perfect. doing woodwork as a hobby, i've done a few black, they are harder then almost any other finish, because the reflect every mistake.. but for the right look they are worth it. i would never attempt one without a wood as hard as oak or harder... ipe would be the best (iron wood) is heavy enough that is sinks in water. almost 4 times as dense as red oak.. not that much more $ per board foot
