plumbing questions

How do you connect your return pump with your pvc pipes?? I use a hose with two metal clamps but im afraid they will come loose one day.

I found a leak in my lines which caused my electrical outlet to short, stupid me i know. Now i have to replace the return lines. The current set up is the Y setup. One line comes from the pump and splits into two. Now I would like to run one line straight from the pump into the tank. Questions are: will it cause any problems as far as the clamp not being able to hold on to the pvc pipe since there is more pressure with only one pine instead of being split into two?? and is it better to split or not to split. THanks!!!
