I would suggest going to Home Depot. They have twin 48" shop lights for $20-30, and you can build a simple box to put them in.The cost will be in buying the bulbs.

I bought the cheap white pine precut lumber for shelving and such. I got 2 1x10x4' boards for $10. Home depot has pretty good selection usually, poplar, pine, even mahogany. Personal taste is what decides, as the type of wood used doesn't really matter. Check out the diy section for ideas for building it. Some tools are needed, but it can be done in a couple of hours.

Depending on your needs, you may want to get several of the LOA sets for the main lights, and supplement them with 48" actinics or 50/50's, but this depends purely on what your tank is going to have in it.

Thanks. I am in the midst of building the hood and calcuating the space.

I want shrooms, polyps, and at the most leather.
