Snail Order

So, I'm going to be placing a large snail order here within the next week and was wondering if anyone else needed any. Between my 400 and chickens 600, we're going to be ordering a LOT of snails. Anyone else need any?

BTW: from what I understand, cowrys eat hair algae according to a few sites I've hit, and Eddie has/had some in stock. Can anyone else verify from experience that these things eat hair algae? They are incredibly large. Bout the size of a golf ball.

Tell you what. I'm looking for Nassarius and Trochus snails. I'll post the places where I'm going to order from and then everyone can post what they want from each place. The guy up in Sac at West Coast Tropical Marine has good prices on Nassarius, but I don't see any Trochus on his site. If anyone has a good place for Trochus that looks to be prices reasonably, let me know.

Okay, so West Coast Tropical Marine sells Trochus for $1.95 each and Nassarius for $.70 each. Anyone want anything else from there?

Yeah, I did a group buy with him, Marc, I believe. Cool guy. He IS in Sacramento, but his warehouse/wholesaler/partner-whatever is down in So. Cal - like every other...

So he processes all the orders up in Sac, but livestock is delivered from So. Cal.

Good timing. I have a new 180 that is cycling for 2 months now. Just about to buy a clean up crew. Any idea how many each of those Trocus & Nassarius I should get? Any suggestion?

Had to search the West Coast Tropical Marine forum for Marc's ID, then look at his profile which finally had the link to the site. RC should put the link as a sticky on the forum...

How much are we looking at per snail?

I'd be interested in 20 nas. (smaller ones preferred)

My classroom tank is just ready to begin stocking - thanks for offering to pool an order!

"The Simple 25" for $17.50
I'd like the 4 Turbos, plus 7 each of Nassarius, Ceriths and Red Leg Hermits.

May write back for cleaner shrimps, but they seem a little pricey.

I'm located in the east bay, but every two weeks I have to commute to work on a Saturday evening to the city by way of the San Mateo bridge (I like the drive better than the bay bridge but please don't ask me why). So I have no objection to meeting at a Starbucks along the way or something in the west side if someone needs me to.

Tenny, nassarius are 70 cents each.

Scuzy, I'll put you down for 50 of each.

radiolunatic, I really think it might come down to how much rock you have in there. You if you have a full 180 to 200 pounds of rock, you may want to think about doing around 40 nassarius and around 70 trochus or so, but that MO.

Scuzy, Nassarius vibex are around the size of your pinkie nail and tend to cruise the sand and often burrow.

maureen, I'll put you down. As for cleaner shrimp, I happen to know for a fact a huge quantity hit a wholesaler this evening and there should be no shortage of them. Talk to Eddie or whatever shop you frequent.

I thought shipping was free, but I guess they don't have that promotion anymore. You sure you guys want to order from WCTM, becasue without free shipping, I'm sure there are cheaper places online.

spanker, one last question and it might be a stupid one.
My 180 is BB, so do you think nassarius will be a good choice for me? You said that the snail will tend to cruise the sand and burrow.
Thanks for your enlightment.

Nassarius like to bury themselves in the sand with their snorkle up like a submarine, they might not be so happy with a BB tank.

true Vince. Radio, I think if I ran a BB tank I would forego the Nassarius then.

Scuzy, I'm in Union City but tend to get around quite a bit. Where abouts are you?

JsL30629, I looked around and they seemed to have pretty much the best prices for Nassarius and Trochus (which is what I am looking for) I didn't price anything else, so yea, they may cost more on other things.
