Does anyone have Scutus with SPS?

I've been researching Black Limpets or Scutus to see if they are reef safe. A friend of mine just brought one over and I want to make sure it is reef safe before I add it.

I have found conflicting info on whether they are reef safe.

Does anyone have one that they keep with acros, milli's, poci's, etc?

I had some keyhole limpets that devistated a colony of clavularia and a neon green nepthea but that's it. They left my sps alone.

I used to have about a 2" long scutus in a tank with acros. So far as I could tell, it never ate anything but algae.

Chicago, ButterfyBoy & Kevin...thanks for the replies and experience.

I put him in my refugium for now. I didnt want to chance it since I probably couldnt get him out of my display tank once he was in there.

Kevin---sorry to hear about the problem you had with your softies, but that is exactly the type of info I was trying to find out. I researched Limpets in multiple books and read threads on many boards; and most of the feedback was all positive and that they never harmed a thing. In fact, most stated they were helpful to a tank since they ate algae and commonly reproduced.

Julian Sprung's experience was that they ate coral flesh (although I wasnt sure what types, or if it was all types). If it wouldnt have been Sprung, I may have just dismissed the advise. His experience is what drove me to do more research.
