Xenia Question

Hey. I got my first coral last week, a very small rock with xenia. It has two "stalks" right now, and they have doubled in size (height) in a week, and the tops are pumping all the time. It is quite pretty. What I have noticed, though, is that the pink tissue on the rock around the base of the stalks has gotten smaller as the stalks have gotten taller (although there is now a third smaller stalk growing as well.)

Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it natural for xenia? This was a free piece (tank propogated) that I got more than anything else as a 'test' coral to see if my tank is ready.

Thanks,

Cool. I'm hoping to keep it on the one oval rock that it came on, so I can remove it if I need to later. I've heard that it can get out of control.
