I`m going to go with putting my live-rock on the pvc. Now do i push my sand toward the front and put the pvc down? Or do i just push the pvc through the sand and then lay the live rock on it? Also, should holes be drilled in the pvc for water flow?

Holes in the pvc would't hurt.I use 2-4" pvc cut into sections that are about a half -one inch above the sand and use very large commercial wire zip ties (36"long by a half inch wide)to secure the rock to the pvc.You could probably get a package of them at an electrical supply house that caters to commercial contractors

I used about eight 4" sections of 4" diameter PVC and left about 1/2" to 1" showing above the sand bed in my 75 gal. Each section was drilled with a dozen or so 1" holes so that the crawly critters could have free reign.

I found little need to tie my rocks to these supports. The 4" diameter has proven to be very stable.

FWIW (not much),
