Any chance of putting a Firefish in a 30 gal reef. Inhabitants are 2 percula clowns. The tank is 3 years old. Is this good or will I be overcrowding it?

A firefish should make a good tankmate for your clowns

Firefish are a very cool fish. It does like quite tank mates otherwise it spends most of it's time in a hideout.

My tank also houses a Purple Tang which is quite dominant fish, so the firefish remains hidden most of the time. It is normally only seen at feeding times.

The tank should be big enough. However, firefish are jumpers. You really don't want them in an uncovered tank or they'll become fish jerky very quickly.
As SimonH pointed out they need hiding places. The more hiding places they have the more secure they feel, and consequently, they'll be out and about more.

I have 2 firefish in my 110 along with a Yellow Tang, 2-False Percula Clowns, Coral Beauty Angel, Royal Gramma, Mandarin, Neon Dottyback and a Twinspot Wrasse. They are out all the time, and very cool fish to watch.

Thumbs up

I usta have 2 firefish (pink) w/ 2 percula clowns a couple of years ago. Very cool fish and they got on w/ each other like a house on fire.

I took the fish back to the lfs when i took the tank down to upgrade.

I'm gonna buy another pair soon though I hope

HTH

Regards

Will

Thanks everyone. The clowns have been in the 30 for about 3 years. The tank has plenty of hiding places. I will re-arrange my live rock so the percs won't be too aggressive towards it.
