Red Sea Max Loud???
I bought a Red Sea Max tank used and I turned on the lights yestereday and the fan seems really loud. If anyone who has the same tank can chime in as to whether the fans in the hood are really loud it would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to determine if I should replace the fan.
Also, the tank does not have water in it yet. I'm not sure if water would dampen the sound some how. Thanks, EJ

The original fans supplied in the hood (2) have been a problem for many. If you contact RSM support, they have replacement fans which are much quieter.

Okay, I ripped the hood apart tonight. Of the two fans, one is much louder then the other. Obviously, this motor needs to be replaced. While I have the hood ripped apart, I was wondering if there are fans avialable that are quiter then the originals? Even if some modification is required, I would be interested provided I have an idea of whats required.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, EJ

Ditti Hodge,
Mine were loud also, my tank is only 6 months old so red sea sent me some under warranty. Pinky at red sea is who you want to talk to. They were cheap so told me the price, but I cant remember exactly, I know it was less then $15 ea. |

I ordered some fans that should fit that have something called maglev technology. They use a magnetic field to suspend the fan instead of a sleeve or ball bearings. If they work I will post a part number. Now, I realize that my moonlights are not working but that is for another thread.
