cheato help

I am having problems with my cheato going in my return section in my sump. I use eggcreat on the top pf my fuge section, but it's not really working. I am getting tired of looking at cheato in my main tank. It's not a lot, but it looks bad in the power heads.

Sounds like theres not much you can do but make a better "cage" for it.

Its a good idea to have a refrence sample for alk test kits. 1.1350 grams of baking soda in 1gallon of distilled water=10dkh. Check your alkalinity test kit!

If I slow the water in the fuge, the ball of cheato stops spinning. How much flow should be going through the fuge?

you could trap it by putting a rock on it to hold it down. I had to do that in my refugium. the stuff just grows out around it. every week, I shake it off and plump it up. I prune when appropriate.

I have to prune mine once every couple weeks at a minimum or it will overgrow the refugium.

I use a plastic needle point grid, cable tied to the egg crate in my sump. Just cable tie the top in 2~3 places so it can flip up to be cleaned at times. K mart , Wal-Mart, etc, has them cheap. water flow is fine & large pieces of cheato remain in the fudge & not in the return.

Go to home depot and get some window screen. Zip tie it around your egg crate. This should stop the chaeto from getting into your main tank.
