Question about high alk
Im having trouble getting my alk down. Tanks been running 3 months now. Ca is 455 and alk is at 13KH. I use the LM3 for 2part dosing and have only been dosing Ca and do not even have the alk dosing at all. Wondering why its still so high? I use IO salt and know its pretty high in alk but is it THAT high? All test kits are new saliferts. Is 13KH okay to run or should I bring it down? If so, what is the best way to do that?

IO shouldn't be that high in alkalinity. There have been issues with some of the Salifert alkalinity tests recently, so you might want to get a second opinion. pH buffers are another source of alkalinity. What's been dosed into the tank?

Only things that have been dosed are Ca and mag to boost up to 1400 and thats it, PH is 8.1-8.2.

Okay, that shouldn't raise alkalinity. I don't think I trust the test kit result just yet, although the SG device could be off, too. This article might help double-check the SG:
