best 1000gallon skimmer under $1000

just what it says i have a 1000gallon system and i need a very good but not over priced skimmer, the tank is going to be fish heavy for now with reef comming in the near future, i would also like something that is upgradable.

No such thing exists unless you want it used.

Generally, $1K will skim 500-700g.

What are your preferences:

- build quality
- performance
- price
- reputation/reliability
- customer support

Place the above in order and someone will be able to provide additional information for you.

Upgradeable ??? Does this mean modular?

Not sure if you will find anything really good new in that range. Some of the cheap skimmers inflate their tank rating but if you compare the specs to other skimmers that are higher priced the cheap skimmers are often times way over-rated.

Check out the classifieds for something...... probably a downdraft skimmer which will hurt the electric bill but be cheaper to buy.

Two things one i might be buying that skimmer mcliffy2, I dont know i guess maybe the new question should be whats the best Fish only (distant reef tank) Skimmer for 1000gallon system that wont break the bank, as for downdraft or retric, ect. it doesnt matter to me i guess in all the years ive been doing this what i have found what works for you might not work for me :-) so new question post away

I also saw that skimmer & thought of your post. It's hard to beat the price on a used skimmer. The only problem is they eat up power.... you might need a pump that pulls 400+w to get the skimmer to work & with a NW skimmer 100-200w might be all that's needed.
