hitcher ID help
I'm now up to 8 or so of these guys but they are not aptasia(oh god I hope I'm right). really bright green and prone to wandering. Most are smaller than a pencil eraser. Fully open and extended maybe the size of a dime.
Retracted tentacles are bulb tipped. Thanks for any help. |

I have these same ones in my tank, good luck on finding out what they are, i thought they were small BTAs, but i had some people on here telling me they were majanos, but i couldn't get a pic of mine. Once again, good luck!

Looks like majano. Can be a real problem if left to proliferate.

Thanks for the replies. I thought aptasia was the only problem anem. I had peppermint shrimp a year ago when the fist of these showed up. Perhaps that is what held the outbreak in check. I just noticed a dead branch on my anchor has one of these guys on it. I thought I killed the branch whith salt I scraped off of my skimmer, guess not. Well looks like I'd better go do some killing. thanks again.

it is a majano, bad news they split for fun and soon youl have loads.
peppermint shrimp wont get it done, take out each rock, put on some gloves and safety goggles (they squirt water) and gouge them out with a blunt knife, take some rock (lr is usually very soft)with it make sure no anemone flesh remains, you rocks will look ok again in no time, you may have to repeat this once or twice to eliminate them

I think that mixing some kalkwasser into a paste will be a lot easier. Put the past in a syringe and inject the little bastards.

well I scraped six off last night. Probably missed some flesh but I read on this forum that unlike aptasia these guys can't regenerate from left over bits of flesh. hope this is true. only got a couple left to find.....for now.

It's commonly sold as a "Tulip Anemone". I think it's in the same family as the majano nem, but is slower to split. In my 120 I've got a small rock that has a little family on there. I started with one a couple of years ago and now I have seven or eight.
If they split rapidly or travel excessively it's likely a sign that there's something going on with your water or your tank. I put a few into my 29 because I'm not doing a whole lot with it right now and three turned into 20 travelling all over the place. |
