Thanks Jeff, interesting! I am so glad I never gave away any of the 5g bucket of Pedlow I bought. I know the guy I got it from bought it several years ago, so it should be fine, right? Since all I use is 1 tsp/day, it'll probably last me forever.

Two part posted this:
we have a stockpile of calcium that was produced prior to the changes and have sourced new suppliers when that runs out.

There is no shortage of high quality calcium chloride suppliers in the world, there will always be high quality calcium available : )

Simple economics, if there is a demand, there will be a supply.

I knew that there wouldnt ever be a shortage but people that use that system need to know what NOT to buy from now on. Adding boron to the tank is not good.

Jeff I think it is great you are letting everyone no to be careful what they are using. We need to keep this on top for awhile.

The newsletter that dow published on the chemical properties is dated from December 2005. Only time will tell if the additional bromide will effect anything. Like Randy said he did not conduct any tests and does not plan to. So it is not 100% proven that it is bad for the reef tank. Calcium Chloride from dow was never ever 100% pure and there are other traces of heavy metals inside also that we probally wont ever need for the reef tank. Only time will tell I guess if it is safe for our tanks.
