If we're talking about the frags we got from last month's meeting, mine didn't survive.

Oh wait you probably meant this years workshop acan frags...

This piece is in about the lowest possible light in my tank it could get without being under a rock, and I've never fed it.

PBT is a little over 5" for reference.

My halide is off for the evening so only have actinic's on and needed to use the flash so things look a bit washed out.

This was the only 90%+ polyp on the piece ive got:

And the whole thing, all the partial polyps are healed or almost healed, I don't believe it has spawned any new ones tho, Ive only fed it about twice.

The polyp under the whole one, I have been very impressed with, he has made great strides to recovery. The two or three polyps in the back are also whole, but sadly i cant really see them heh... The polyp directly above the whole one has healed really well, he was in pretty rough shape initially. All in all, with the dirty water, temp swings and frag time im impressed that no polyps died off.

My acan is doing well. Notice that I had an extra piece that fell off of my main piece. I think it was from a different cut that Erik had made. It's directly below the frag. It's doing ok. The color on it is starting to come back.

Erik or anyone else, are those hard worm tubes bad? You can see them all over the rock. If they are bad, how do I get rid of them?
Kevin

The "tube worms" look like vermetid snails

Dr.Ron has a good article on them, and I know what a fan Erik is of the doc

Snails That Worm Their Way Into Tanks

I know what kind of web you are talking about, I've seen it before. But these do not do that or at least I do not see them do it.
The only time I see some sort of web is during a water change were I stir up the crap when trying to siphon.

They are trying to feed on the particles you are stirring up.

The article has some good info

Why would you want to get rid of them? Just over populated? surely there can't be that much floating through the water column to feed them? or at the very least if they became a plague they would soon die back off to lesser levels.

Reson Number one to get rid of them, the web causes corals to close up
2. there ugly

Aadller, how do you know that if and when they reach plague levels they'll die back to lesser levels???

From the pic, they look to be plague levels already. I can count atleast a dozen in a 2 by 2 square inch area.
Erik

I believe six line wrassies eat them too

Search function shows that a vermetid snails is a:

A Zoanthid Irritater and is something that can irritate a Zoanthid for long periods of time, causing it to close, and eventually kill the Zoanthid. I'm not talking about a Hermit crab that crawls across a Zoanthid colony. No worries, he's in and out in a minute. Or a fish that swims by - again, they'll open and close fairly quickly. An example is something with sweeping tentacles that don't eat Zoanthids, but will rest their tentacles o_n a Zoanthid for long periods of time causing it to remain closed and eventually kill it. Some of these critters have stinging tentacles as well which compound to the problem. It should be noted that not all Irritaters effect all Zoanthids! Some seem immune while others fall victim...

I've personally seen the web damage tissue on sps corals too. I wouldn't be super worried about getting rid of them all at once, just smash a few here ant there and hopefully they'll be gone or under control by the time you move your tank.

OK...here's mine...I guess now that I look at it closer it is doing better than I thought...all the cut polyps are almost healed and filling out...guess it is time to take out of the frag tank and put in the 120...

I don't know that they would die back, nature tends to find balance--thats all. I guess I would only find a solution if there were actual signs of stress from coral(s). I have never had them THAT badly, so i've never noticed a problem from them, never even seen the spider web-like thing. And if they primarily bug zoas, which i loath ;c), i would say the more the merrier heh .
