Skimmer choices
I need to upgrade my current skimmer. My Bio-load is too high and need a larger skimmer according to LFS. I have a 90 gallon tank, I would like to stay under $500, but would consider going over. I need help with the pro's and con's of the various skimming systems, "Spray Injection" vs. "Beckett" vs. "Venturi". I also need help with the proper load sizing.

Are you planning on HOB or IN SUMP skimmer?

I would like to go both ways. It would start out in-sump for a couple of months. I intend on replacing my current sump with an oceanic model 2 sump and have both filtation in sump and canister filters.

if you want a high quality skimmer i wouldn't even bother looking "venturi's". Becketts, and downdrafts both work really well. but in general they need to be rather tall to work really well, also they need huge pumps to work best. this usually means more power costs and more heat. I personally like needle wheel skimmers the best. I used to run a euro reef rs-135 on my 125 FOWLR and it worked well, and i'm currently using a ER rs-250 on my 120 reef, and it is unbelievable. If you have the money get a recirculating one, there expensive but awsome. Other good needle wheel skimmers are ASM, Deltec, bubble king. If you decide to go with a becket or spray, i've heard good things about precision marine bullet's, AquaC CV. If it were me i'd get an ER or ASM, i think there the best skimmer for the price.

I was looking at the PM Bullet (beckett), AquaC CV (Spray Injection) & the Euro-Reef RC (venturi/needle wheel) and am trying to decide the merits of each. I am trying to make my tank as energy saving as possible, as I am about to increase the wattage of my lights to 400W with LED's, but increasing the skimming capacity comes before energy savings
Also, just went to ASM website and it appears they are not in the skimmer business anymore. |

It 24x10x18. Its a 125 Premier wet/dry w/ prefilter made by Sealife Systems.
