RO/DI system Top off and Salinity

Brand spanking new and my first post.

My make up water system is a 35 gallon trash can connected to my ro/di system and a top off system to my pump chamber of my refugium. Should I maintain the salinity of the top off water at 1.025 or should it be 0. If salt doesnt evap then Im wondering if my make up water should be salt free.

Adv(thanks)ance,

Jeff

By the way, a HUGE thanks to albert at Aqua Cave. That guy is terrific! If you need anything, give him a try first.

you don't want salt in your top off water, adding sal when your water depleats will just raise your salinity level.

Yeah, top off with water only. Not salt water. The only time to use salt in the top off would be to slowly raise salinity. But I still would not do that with an automatic top off system.

Also, invest in a refractometer (around $40 from the local sponsors) and calibration fluid for the refractometer.

One thing you should check is the salinity of your tank, if you skim wet, over time the salinity will drop.

I know you didn't ask that, but just wanted to cover all the bases.

I think you can just use RODI to calibrate your refractometer.

Thanks all, cleared that right up. I do have a refractometer and I calibrate with the water out of the ro/di. More questions to follow....
