sun coral

hi

i bought my sun coral from a LFS like 3 days ago

heres a pic

at first when i feed it i placed a soda bottle over it so it had time to eat but now im putting him in a bucket to feed and its been opening up slowly

i read on melevreefs thats how to feed sun coral to get it to adjust to your feeding time

the pic was snaped like 15 mins after i put him bak into my main tank

but anyway i wanted to ask...does the sun coral look healthy? is it natural for it to open just half way like that and not open fully?

Thanks
Orbit

There polyps extend at night. Its not unusual for them to be closed up in the day. If you target feed at the same time each day they will be ready open at feeding time

Looks like a healthy colony. They are beautiful but too labor intensive for me. Hopefully that erosion on the left will heal.

looks healthy to me. I think target feeding in your tank with mysis and cyclops-eeze is sufficient. I would not take him out of the tank

Eventually you can "train" them to open during any time of the day, just as long as food is present.

they love dt's oyster eggs too. have to agree with the too labor intensive part, though.
