Koralia or Seio PH?

I'm dumping my Mag 12 CL in my efforts to shave $$$ off of the electric bill. The local power company is talking about raising the rates from $0.10/kWh to $0.012 or so (tough, I know) but I am looking at getting a pair of either Seio M620s or Koralia 2's. The Koralias are going to cost an extra $20 or so but look more streamlined and "cooler" so if they are of better quality than the Seios I'll dig a bit deeper.

So what do y'all think? Seio's or Koralia's?

TIA!

I prefer the seios over the korralias, I have both in the tank now. I have never had a modded maxi so I cant comment on them

I have been impressed with the Seios as a good value and I recommend them if you're watching your budget. A single 1500 would probably be a good choice for the average 90 hgallon tank and at 32W it's fairly efficient. The mounting harware that comes with them is typical garbage though I strongly recommend the Sure Grip magnetic holders for mounting.

If you ever want to upgrade this in the future then I would think that 2 Seio 1500s with a controller would be kick-butt DSPS flow in a 90 gallon system You'd be generating 3000 gph of alternating current for under 64W of power consumption. Of course, now you're talking about a total cost of almost $400 bucks for the whole set-up but I like to think about upgradability before I make aquarium purchases (What can I say - I really need help)

I agree on the seio's. have a koralia and a maximod now. The koralia i feel does not have decent flow. It seems too dispersed to me. I am going o switch back to seio's and keep my maxi mod as I like the flow from it.....

I say Koralia. I just upgraded from 2 seio 1100's to the Koralia 3's and going to get another soon. Koralias are better looking, have wider flow(with the added attachment that the new pumps have), smaller look, half the watts and have a nice magnet mount to make things much easier.

I've had both and I switched out my two Seio 1100s for the K4s.

Wow, I thought that the Seio was going to win this contest but now the Koralia's are making a comeback. My issue is that I don't want to dump too much money into this switch. I am currently running the Mag 12 with 6 ft of actual head and then the plumbing so I know that the flow is quite restricted but the movement in the tank seems nice. I could use some more, no doubt, but that is why I was figuring that the Seio M620's would give me about 1200 gph and turn the tank nicely. I'll only have softies and LPS in the tank (okay, probably a M. Digita and Capricornus as well) so I don't need tidal wave flow in the tank.

Any more input?

Thanks!!!!!!

Seio is coming out with some new current producing pumps. I dont think they are out yet but they atleast look interesting. Check the Taam site. I didnt like the bulkiness of their pumps or the heat or the flow pattern particularly either. Maybe the new ones will be worth a look if the price is good.

I really don't like the Seio's. I had a 620 and the flow was lousy, plus, they are just like the Rio's in that when you shut them off for any reason, you have to take them apart and clean them to get them started again. I have 3 Koralia's, a 2, a 3, and a 4, they are great! Haven't cleaned them yet, the 2 is ~ 6 months old. No problems, they start up every time. Very wide flow, can be used anywhere in the tank.

I don't know if you're putting these on a wave maker at all or not, but the Koralias seem to crap out on them. I had 2 K1's on an AC Jr and they quit working on it after a few weeks. They just don't work the same anymore, even when trying to mix some salt water for a WC. I switched to 2 Seio 820s and they work great. They clank a little here and there when switching from one pump to the other, but I've been using them for over a month and they still work great. I have a 45g cube and they seem to be enough flow for what I have and want in the future. I don't even have them setup in the manner that makes them look similar to the Tunze Streams. I have them in their columnar set up. I'm sure if I switched it they'd get better coverage since I'm limited to the direction of flow with the set up I have going.

I have two Seio 620's and two K2's. I can't wait to replace the Seios with Koralias. The Seios have a bulky mounting system, don't come with a magnetic mount, and have a very small intake screen that is prone to clogging with algae and reducing output. My Koralias have none of these problems.

I had Seio 820s and 1100. The 1100 was always balky turning back on after it power off. IMO you are taking a huge chance on these pumps on any controller outside the Seio; like the AC jr. I run a K3 and K4 in my 50G SPS frag tank. I just aim it off a side and get tons of indirect flow. For a fraction of the wattage a Seio will pull. IIRC the total wattage my 2 pumps use combined is < 15W.
One thing you must do with the Korallias is soak them in vinegar every 3 mos. or so if you run a SPS reef with lots of Ca additions. In addition the mag mount is part of the Korallia; not an add on. Very aimable. Don't be confused by the dispersed flow. You want mass movement not velocity.

I won't be using any sort of controller or wave maker except me physically pulling the plug for any tank maintainance that requires it. I think that I am going to shoot high(er) and get the Koralias since the mounting is much more favorable among other points. Thank you everyone for the input! It is much appreciated!

i've had them all.. modded maxi's, seio's and korallias..

i say koralias hands down.. those dang seios are so big, ugly and clunky looking. and i love the wide flow of the k4.

Plus they are cheaper.
