Pellet type foods and algae

I have been feeding New Life Spectrum for the past 6 months or so and have slowly watched hair algae become more of an issue. My system is big 1340 plus gallons and using more pellet foods is the only real change. I am no newbie so not going to go into the water chemistry and such. I am just curious if anybody has an opinion on if these types of food can be a contributor to algae issues.

I've noticed my nitrates go up when using "Nutrafin Max" pellet food. It's the only pellet food i use. Pellet food is only used in my system a couple days a month when my girlfriend babysits the tank when Im away. Just to make things easier. For the rest of the month I use a variety of rinsed frozen and dried green seaweed. Nitrates aren't an issue when using the frozen and seaweed combination. This doesn't necessarily mean it's the pellets. My girlfriend maybe be overfeeding a little. Just my 2 cents on this topic
