|
anemone and cleaner shrimp
well this past friday i bought a zebra anemone and 2 cleaner shrimp
the shrimp are gone never seen them after i put them in my question did my anemone eat them ? the anemone was fed a silver side at the pet shop i also have a pair of clowns but they are small any clues ? |

zebra anemone? what is that? Is it a black and white flower anemone? About your shrimp question, yes it is possible for your anemone to eat the shrimp.

That looks like the Heteractis aurora aka beaded anemone. The only clown fish I've read about, that have a relationship with that anemone is the A. tricinctus (three stripe clownfish), A. clarkii, A akindynos, A allardi, A bicinctus, A chrysogaster, A chrysopterus. Those ocellaris may not ever host that anemone. If it is a beaded anemone it perfers its foot in the sand. There is a good chance your anemone ate your cleaner shrimp but I would look all over the tank just incase.

my clowns were in the anemone thats why i bought that anemone. i really didn't care for the color
i checked on them this morning and they were both hanging out in the anemone as for the shrimp i'm really bummed and ****ed i have looked everywhere i hope they are hiding somewhere |

Definitely looks like Heteractis aurora. If will eventually bury its base deep in the sand. Prefers 6 inches of sand or so. Generally a hardy anemone. As far as it eating your cleaner shrimp, I doubt it will, but no promises. The anemone prefers high intensity lighting (e.g., pcs, t-5s, sunlight).

Ive read some threads where the shrimp hide within the crevices in the live rock...just a possibility

Most shrimp will hide when newly introduced...
My skunk cleaner and blood fire shrimp both hid when I first introduced them into my tank. |

Do you have any other carnivore inverts in your tank? I couldn't find my skunk cleaner shrimp for a while. One day it was on the rocks and then it was gone the next day. I couldn't find its body, I am pretty sure its dead though and my bumble bee snails took care of its body.

Nice nem. My lfs sells those as zebra lta's... yea I'm going with H. aurora.
Well anyways I'm going to second and third what people have said about the shrimp hiding when first introduced. After I introduced my skunk cleaner, it stayed in the back of the tank under the rocks. I took a mirror around the backside of the tank to find it. It took about a week and then it came out in the open. Occasionally it will hide in the back for several hours but then pop out when I throw some food in the tank. As for peppermint shrimp, for me, those always stayed hiding underneath rocks, in holes, in the shaded areas in the back of the tank. |

this is my first sw tank and i must say i'm loving this side of the hobby
i checked the tank this morning with a flashlight and both my clowns were in the anemone just hanging out very kool stuff my wife is starting to think i'm getting obsessed .......lol i think after xmas i'm going to break down my 75 gallon cichlid tank and go strictly sw....does that make me obsessed .........lol thanks everyone for the info and responses as of this morning no sign of the shrimp |

have you tried searching for them at night? my fire shrimp is most active when the lights are out. it will make an appearance occasionally when the lights are on, but usually stays hidden. shame, though, it is really neat to look at. if you try the lights out search, dont shine the flashlight on the clowns or any other fish. it scares them and they could go carpet surfing from the fright. hope they turn up.
