180 g advise

I am going to build a 180g system soon and am looking for info on lighting help. I know very little about lighting (what to buy) and don't understand what is available, so I am looking for advise form fellow reefer's.
My tank will be an in wall 180 and I would like to be able to keep sps if I want. The tank is 6'x2'x2' and the tank is going to be in my storage/utility room so I have lots of room for good lighting.
What do you thing, remember you have to talk in term that a lighting newby can understand.

Thanks

IMO with a tank only 24" deep You should be ok with 250 watt setups.Or maybe T5`s.A lot of people are having great results with them.Do You plan on running a chiller? If You are and have a canopy You will likely need one.You may also want to consider using Luminarc reflectors with the halides.I have one and it makes a HUGE difference.I have a single 250 over My 92 corner bowfront and it covers the majority of the tank.

Mine did really nice with 3-250 MH's with 14 k bulbs.And 2 96 and 2 65 watt PC's for actinics.I would though go with T-5's for actinics if I did it again.

Thanks for the help, do I buy ballasts with reflector and bulbs, or a thing called retrofit, or a whole canopy?

Really depends on you. Building your own is less expensive . A commericial one would look cleaner and produce more desired reults and if you can afford it two ceiling hung MH units would look and perform great , but expensive.

Depends on your system. If you cant even see the canopy then retrofit and save. If they are visiable and you can afford the clean commercial lights would be great.
