Please let me know where to get that Handi-foam.
I have found Dr. Foster&Smith (they donīt ship to Hawaii) and AquaticEcoSystems (too expensive to ship!!).
Please help. My new tank is waiting just for that.

Any place that deals with Koi ponds or other water features will likely have it.

Nope, not here!
No Home Depot, no Lowes, no pond places have it. Theyīve got other brands, but not for ponds.
I was thinking to order on line ...

Is there any other non-toxic brand safe for the saltwater system?

Please keep trying to help me.
Thanks a lot

I would think other brands of foam would be just fine. If its made to go in a koi pond, its going to be safe for the fish. I know there are at least a couple other brands out there people have used. Hopefully some of them will chime in here.

I believe Great-Stuff foam by Dow is one of them, but it does not come in black if i recall.

Hello:

Hey Fiziksgeek... We do have the Great-Stuff foam by Dow here at Home Depot. I didnīt know we can use that in the aquarium... I thought it was toxic for the fish.

Can anyone here let me know if they used before in a fish tank?
thanks a lot for the help.

Any other tips by users?

Any additional links regarding the use of the foams in aquariums?

Thanks!

Aloha from Hawaii
Grandis.

Iīve used the Rockin Foam and loved it! Iīm so happy with the results. It really looks like rock. I believe itīs just like the other types of pond foam. Now I need to find time to start the system!
Thanks a lot for the help guys!

Any other tips or sites with foam work in aquariums please post.

Aloha,
Grandis.

Well... today I found only about 25% of the foam still on the glass. The tank is still empty. The foam shrinked around the edges and came off the glass.
Anyone knows?
What did I do wrong?

Is it the first time that this kind of thing happens?
Anyone?
I took the foam out of the tank.
Maybe itīs the brand / type of foam?

Well, I have to believe thatīs the first time anyone hear about the foam getting off the glass by itself. The size now is about 70 to 75% of the initial area covered. I think the thing is still shrinking...

I promess to you guys that I didnīt put it in the dryer!

wow that is strange

Sidewinders tank uses handi-foam all over the back, and I am contemplating covering my overflows with it.

Could it be the brand that Iīve used?

Itīs just too bad I canīt find the Handi-foam around here!
Well, Iīve got another idea and will try a thin concrete wall to cover the back. More work...

Hope this thread helps others when they choose the foam.

I just used the 2-part Handi-Foam on Saturday, for a 1000g reef system that I'm currently building.

http://www.foampower.com/store/two_component/index.html

I first siliconed eggcrate to the walls, then after 24 hours of silicone curing, I sprayed the eggcrate with the foam... Once the foam was cured, I painted it with epoxy resin and covered it all in sand.

very cool idea. eggcrate gives it more surface to grab onto

I like what you've done, mixing the foam+resin+sand.

I think I'm going to head more that route, but I'm going to fasten a few pieces of base rock in there to break it up (probably with pvc fatened to the eggcrate

The foam alone would easily pull away from the tank as it cures, but the eggcrate keeps that from happening, since it's alreay well secured. Also, since eggcrate is polystyrene, the eggcrate and foam will basically become one.

The 2-part Handi-Foam that I used is a closed cell foam, and it becomes rock hard in a matter of seconds, not hours like open cell Great Stuff does. It also gets very hot due to the chemical reaction that takes place when the 2 parts are combined at the spray nozzle.

I had every intention of stuffing a lot of rubble in the foam, but it wasn't possible due to how quickly it set up... The entire tank took all of 3-4 minutes to spray!

I thought about that tgreene, but my problem would be the type of foam, I would think. Iīve thought about lots of possibilities.

Itīs very nice to have your pictures here and and know that it is possible to do with the egg crate + silicone.

Well, 2 days ago Iīve got some egg crate and white cement to make the back wall of the tank. Hope I wonīt take too long to cure, once sometimes thatīs the problem with cement!

Maybe the other tanks worked better with the foam because they were acrylic?

My foam looks concave now and is history! Canīt use for nothing!

Aloha,
Grandis.

A few years ago I tried foaming directly to the glass, and the results were exactly as you described... I've done a ton of research since then, to learn about what does and does not work.
