stand 3/16 off level

it is leaning back. all was good till i put the 55g and the livestock in the stand. i started to fill the 120 and noticed the trim and water level were not parallel.

the design of the stand effed me up i think.
the bottom of the stand(that contacts the carpet) is made of 2x4's. on the front and the sides, the 2x4's are laid down flat(3.5in side laying down) and the back, the skinny side toutches the floor. so there is less surface area toutching the floor, so it has greater down force in the back.

i had the 55g in the back of the stand, the tank was about 1/4-5/8 off level.

i moved the 55 to the front, and it is 3/16 off level.


i was hoping the weight of the 120 would smush the front down, i have it 3/4 full and still the same.

should i be worried about the 3/16?

i really dont wanna empty the 120 and the 55 with all my livestock out!lol

One of my tanks is like that. I just left it. The back of mine is 3/16-1/4" lower than the front. You can not notice it.

you should try to be at least 1/64 level, +/- 1/32 . helps the lighting to disperse equally.

you could always shim up the back, cheap, and relatively easy fix

huh.... level?.... out of over 60 plus tanks I have owned (180gallon down to 5gallon) i don't think I have ever really checked....
I do own a level...

i cant even shim the tank up without emptying it. how would i get a shim between the stand and carpet?

It really shouldn't be too hard to get a small pry bar under the back or near the back on the side and lift it enough to get a shim on each side. The problem is that you are then putting all the weight onto a couple of points where it is shimmed instead of supporting it along the entire frame.

I wouldn't worry about a 1/4" especially from front to back. My tanks all have the waterline above the trim anyway so you couldn't see that it isn't level after filling.

I say just go for it and see how it look when full. If you have to drain the tank it should only take a couple minutes with a deccent sized hose and a couple rubbermaid bins. Is the tank filling with RO or just tap water?

The stand should be as close to leve as possible. With the stand not being level it puts extra stress on the seams on the bottom of the tank depending on which way it is leaning. This may not be a problem at first but it could lead to a seam failure. I had a seam start to split on my 210 and it was pinpointed to the stand not being perfectly level. The more weight in water you have the greater the potential is for failure. All Glass was still kind enough to warranty my tank. I used my machinest level on the next setup and it is percise to 0.001. No more problems after that. Just my 2 cents.

i have a brute trash can next to the tank being filled with water, and the waste line of the rodi is out my window. in the morning i pump the water from the trash can into the tank.




ill try the crow bar thing tomorrow, i dont think im going to be able to move 600lb's of water tho lol it gonna be hard enough to get the crobar under the back of the stand.



i guess if i have to, go to home depot, buy 4 trash cans. put the water in those. level the tank out, then return the trash cans lol
those brute cans are stupidly expensive!


i just dont wanna break the 55 down again, im shure my corals are PO'ed enough

I have put shims under full tanks up to 125 gal.
I used the fiber shims, they are very slick and slide easy under stand by tapping them in with a hammer and block of wood.
I've done this on all types of flooring.
It can be done....

I got mine at HD think they were about $1.25 a pack.

They look like the ones at the bottom of this pic. The snap easier thn wood and was able to get them under a half full 58 with carpeting
