Pricey corals vs high demand

I was wondering what corals are in higher demand that are pricey-like bonsai and superman? I'm just curious.

pretty much any LE or AE echino takes the cake on higher prices.....I tried bidding on a few echinos on ebay or elsewhere but I am not dumb enough to pay 400 bucks for a 3/4" frag. I will let someone else do the growing and get a frag later.

I hate that the price gos up just because of who grew it or what it is called. I think that a lot of very cool acros come from the wild. I just got a frag that either is a hulk or a dead ringer for one and i paid 20$ for a frag the size of a egg

i dont mind paying prices if its a decent size frag. $80 is what you expect to pay for a rare or LE coral. but if im paying that $80, i expect like a 1.5" frag. i dont understand how people can charge that much or more for 1/2" or 3/4" nub.

Living in Alaska proves to be quite limiting as for the trading with local reefers . You guys have it made down there - swap meets, clubs, all the goodies. It's one of the few things I miss after saying Goodbye to NY! You think $80 for a frag is bad, try paying another $70 on top of that for shipping!

Now I find that coral not paticularly interesting or eye catching. Yet, here is an example of toying with the reefers must have mentality simply because an individual has deemed it rare. When is a coral really rare? The moment the seller decides it so. It wasn't five minutes before he or she said it was, but it is now. I don't know how many times I've seen corals or fish which were not remarkable looking which sat for sale unsold and when upon being labeled rare suddenly sold. It's just another form of marketing.

I always thought I was addicted, but those who buy a 1/2 inch nub or a disk with a dime size Monti frag are the true addicts. My problem with "named, "rare" corals is that they just don't make a realistic looking reef. Maybe I am just impatient.

I passed last weekend on a $129.00, beautiful Superman Monti, fresh from the ocean, encrusted over a rock about 3" round. Pretty crazy huh. ...It was hard to pass. The shop owner had a friend visiting Fiji shipping hand picked corals directly to him. I could have fragged it and made a killing!

Dr. Mac photo shops all his photos. All the pictures are over saturated. The greens look neon green.

The only problem with trading stuff, is the fact that eventually someone has the pay the ungodly price to obtain something worth trading. Unless you know someone totally friggin awesome ( which i do not )

Im not about to pay 80-120 dollars for a frag of anything.

Actually, it's the lights. I use 20,000K Helios bulbs and they make every green a neon or fluorescent green. The colors develop better under certain types of lighting. I have a metallic green acro with red polyps but if you look at it under regular lighting it's brown.

at one of my lfs they just did the same thing with a passer angel that they had. it was a beautiful fish that they had for a couple months and when they got another one in that was smaller they raised the price of the one they had for a while that was bigger and it sold the next day.
