Here, let me take a factor away-It doesn't matter that much how cool G. chiragra look because you'll never see them unless you get the one in a million active chiragra :P

Ding ding ding ding ding ding!!!!!

The ONLY mine comes out of his burrow is to molt, and destroy the crab that just got added. Other than that all I ever see is his head. If I add a snail he will pull it into his burrow to crack open, and if I add several snails he will gather up several and hoard them in his burrow, and not even open the door for a couple weeks.

Hey Giga,

I'm with the guys on this. My vote is for the Peacock, but will your tank be sufficient enough for one? Mine both roam ALL over the sand bed, delivering carnage and aesthetically pleasing brutality to anything with a shell.

Have you gone to YouTube and watched any of the Mantis Shrimp videos? There are some *awesome* videos of Peacocks, and I think there's one of a Chiragra as well.

That might help make your decision a little easier though.

If I got a 2" peacock and put it in an 8 gallon glass tank, how soon would I need to upgrade to something larger and stronger? Are we talking about months, a year, or more? All this talk about their elite pummeling skills is REALLY making me want one. =)

Heh! I'd personally say you'd need to upgrade before you ever set the 8 gallon up!

Supposably they only grow about .5" a year in an aquarium so I wouldn't think you would need to upgrade for a while. I'd say get both and keep the one that lives!!! JK! I'd go with the Peacock to be be satisfied with an active shrimp

I got lucky when I bought Mitch, my G. Chiragra, he was all over his tank...almost more than Nibbles, my Peacock. But Id say if you want something active, go with what everyone else has said and get the peacock!
