How difficult to make your own sump/fuge?

So how difficult is it to make your own sump/fuge? I have done wood work and sometime pieces aren't cut to perfect size but may still work since it doesn't have to be 100% sealed like a aquarium has to be. I imagine with acrylic work eveything cut has to be precies in order for everything to line up correctly and seal.

So how hard is it for a guy with decent wood working skills? I want to maximize my stand space to have the largest sump possible so buying pre-made sumps are out of the question. Would it be better to have a plastic shop cut everything out for me first?

i found an old fish tank, and i'm putting baffels in it now... plexi-glass is easy to work with. So far i've made a line. cut a little big. then try to fit it. after that i trim what doesn't work....
i'm not done, yet but if it doesn't fit too well on the sides (i cut too much) then i'll just use more silicone...

Buying a small fish tank (used or new) and adding your own baffles (glass or acrylic) is often the easiest and most cost effective way to make a sump. You don't really have to worry about leaks on your seams b/c none of your seams will be external, if there's a leak, it doesn't really matter.

I made my sump/fuge from a 75gal AGA using 1/4" plexi baffles. I used a combo of superglue and silicone. Works great, my next try at it will include drilling for an external pump.

Thanks for the replies. A 60g 36x18x20" would be a perfect size for me to add baffles too. When using an acrylic tank can I add acrylic baffles using acrylic glue or do I have to use silicone?

He's got pretty straight forward, step by step instructions on there. Makes it look pretty easy.
