i think you need to QT it at least 2-3 months or so...however, i believe your tank has ich already..but i don't think it's a big deal as long as your water quality is good.
The reason i say your tank has ich already is cuz, it is very possible your tank has ich before you put those clowns in there, and it just shows the sign on those clowns cuz new fish and stress. Also it is possible the ich went in with those clowns, BUT since you saw ich already(what you see with those white spots are eggs) , that means the life cycle of ich is probably completed, so those ich would be in your tank already. I always have ich in my tank, but the whole idea is that they seem to find a balance in there, which means it's under control and doesn't bother any fish. i think the only way to have a 100% ichless tank is copper...and i believe at least 95%+ of ppl here know that they have ich in there tank, but not showing and sign cuz everything pretty balance. If your really worry, then just do everything you can b4 medication. such as cleaner shrimp, cleaner wrasse, UV... and with my own experiences, it really helps to keep ich under control. |

One thing I know for sure, to stop your outbreak, you need to take ALL the fish out of your display system. Place them in a QT. Reduce the salanity to 1.011 over several days. keep the salanity at that level for 6 weeks, and then raise it back up to 1.025ish over the course of a week. All said and done the treatment takes 8 weeks and requires a lot of water changes. However you will have no ICH in the fish or in the display when you return the fish after 8 weeks. Best rule is to always QT and threat with hyposalinity everytime you buy a fish!

Hyposalinity is the best treatment for ick but are you sure is not Brooklynella? check out the pictures in this thread.
http://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=127010 If it's Brooklynella, Formalin baths will take care of it but you need to setup up a QT asap and start the treatment. Let me know if you need more information about it. Good luck! |

Hypo salinity never worked for me.Copper did..... I removed all my fish for 5 weeks from the main tank.Qt tank all fish for 14+ days with copper.Test copper and adjust every day, change 10% water every 3 days. Careful of copper level according to type of fish, some fish [like tangs] need lower levels.

I would get all of your fish out and put them into a QT. Do a hyposalinity for at least three weeks. Then slowly bring the salinity back up to normal. In the mean time, all the ick that is in your main tank should be gone.
If you can't take all your fish out I would soak the fish food in some garlic extract then feed them to your fish. Scientifically, I don't know if it does anything. Personally, it will rid the ick off my fish. Nava is right, ick is always a present in tanks. It is when you tank is in balance, you don't seem to notice them. |

I think he is asking how long before he can put the fish in his QT tank. He used 1/2 his water and 1/2 new water. Does he need to wait or can he put the fish in the qt tank asap?? I would also like to know.

I used garlic in the past and it worked for me. AFAIK it helps the immune system fight it. Maybe I was lucky.
I soak my pets food with a couple of drops on a regular basis because it seems to improve their health and color. Good luck! |
