Protien Skimming a must in a Nano??

I was just wondering if I will be able to keep any sps in a 16 bow without skimming and just relying on water changes, fuge, carbon and Purigen or Bio-chemzorb or somthing like that. What do you guys think?? or has anyone had a nice nano without skimming??

If you keep the fish stocking and feedings low I see no reason why not.

I kept an ORA Green Polyp Birdsnest & a Pink Poci in my nanocube
under upgraded PC's and w/o a skimmer before popping the top with the sunpod.

water changes should do the work. I run my nano skimmer only on weekends, it more than enough for me. water parameter are 99.9% right

I have done it with a 12g nano cube and never had problems, but at the same time I had to do frequent water changes to ensure that my tank parameters stayed top notch.

Out of curiousity, why don't you want to use a skimmer? If you use a skimmer it will help maintain water quality and your frequency of water changing would go down.

I have A 10G Nano and i run a HOB filter. I change or rinse filter pads once a week and change carbon every 2. I have no skimmer, 3 small fish, many tiny inverts, and over 2 dozen diffrent frags. If you dont feed everyday, and do waterchages quite frequently, you should not have a problem.

try the resun nano skimmer. it doesn't take that much space. is a PITA to adjust but it does the work. also the skimmer that new_world_disor gave you the link should work. I considering that one but I have to see if it is smaller than the resun nano

Thumbs down AquaC Nano

I just installed my AquaC nano protein skimmer on my tank. Let me tell you, it;s is VERY VERY LOUD.

I'm this close to taking it out and tossing it. It wouldn't be bad if I had my tank tucked away in the basement or attic, unfortunately my is next to my tv.

Water changes will take care of it. Filters like protein skimmers are there to export nutrients, and the easiest way to export nutrients is a water change, and on small tanks its easier and much more economical to just change some water.

Keep the fish out...then maybe. I have run both ways...skimming just makes sense in any saltwater application.

It's not a necessity, but i'll never run my tank without one.
