baby N. Wennerae
Hello fellow mantis lovers,
I have a baby N. Wennerae i believe, it mostly stays in its hole and isnt really eating could it be going to molt? What is good food for a baby mantis? will the mantis be more open and friendly when it grows older? thanks now for some pics hes about 1-1.5 in i believe. whole rock he's in FTS ::his paradise? lol:: any help would be great! |

From what I could see of it, it looks like an adorable little Stomatopod. I don't know its species, but I'm sure if Dr. Roy chimes in (with the assistance of a few better shots) he could tell you which species it is.
Have you tried coaxing it out with a mysis shrimp or tiny piece of krill on a bamboo skewer? That might be the best way to get a good shot of the little bugger. Good luck with the Mantis Shrimp; you have a beautiful tank!

i have had a N. Wennerae for about 2 years now and he is still very reclusive. he only appears around feeding time when i tap on his tank to let him know it's dinner time..
i still enjoy him, his little beady eyes pearing out at me are quite entertaining... sometimes the things you don't see all of the time in the reef are the most exciting... good luck with him..... here's Igor...

Where do you guys pick up mantis shrimp at? (lfs, online, wholesaler) Thanks for the info!

a local refer. and i cant get him out to far. but on a side note when he comes out with his food in his clubs the clown nabs the food lol.
