Bubble King 400 external skimmer FS

The protein skimmer body is 1 year old. But the Red dragon pump is only a month old. I am taking down my 550g system and move to Colorado next year in May-Jul. I'm active duty in the Marine Corps, i have to relocate every 3-4 yrs.

Jeremy at aquarium specialty helps to replace my old red dragon pump. The old pump stopped 3 times in the past 11 months. I don't know what was wrong with it till Gary from Captive Ocean point out the issue. Now both motor block working perfectly.

The protein skimmer rated for 700-1000g system using 68w @ 55 liter of air per min. The pump has low to no heat transfer, super quiet (if you use the silencer). The reaction chamber is 14" or 400mm, 31" tall. The skimmer body using 1/4" thick cast acrylic tube, the box, lid and collection cup bottom using 3/8" PVC (very strong). When the skimmer arrived it has a little cosmetic problem but it has been fix professionally by Loc01. It has been running for 1 yr without any issue.

When the skimmer arrived, it has couple hair line cracked on the box and collection cup but it doesn't crack all the way through. Loc01 using the heat gun to fuzed the crack together and using flexible filler to even out the surface. You won't be able to see the cracked. Here is some pic of the collection cup and the box after loc01 fix it.

Pic of the skimmer running

Asking $2700 pick up only or $3000 with the second motor block. I paid $4000 shipped from Captive ocean last Nov

Me too. Not only a beast and extremely silent - but Steve should show pictures of the 5 gallon collection drain. The skimmate is NASTY.

The skimmer top out a bit over 1000g. You should go with BK500 to be safe....

IMO, these protein skimmer work best with 500-700g system.

Not cool to post prices of web sites. If you dont have something constructive to say then dont post or PM. I had the same thing with one of my post and all it did was this----->

I think 99% of the people on here know what premium aquatics is and are going to shop around before they buy something new or used. I just wanted to let the seller know he is close to what people can buy a new one for. It sounds like this prevents you from taking advantage of someone and that is what makes you

Steve's skimmer is like new beside you are getting an extra motor block....this thing cost a lot.

I think 3000 is a steal, I saw this skimmer in person too...I am tempting to buy it, but broken like most of you here.

Thank you Tom. as Chaffey mentioned, this deal come with an extra motor block. I was going to send the motor block to Captive ocean to have Gary add the impeller, and the housing then i will have another pump.

By the way, the new line of Bubble King is cheaper because they downsize the pump. Something you folks should look for

BK 300 used to have Red Dragon 2000 now Red Dragon 1500
BK 400 used to have Red Drgon 2500 now is Red Dragon 2000

What does the number mean to you? I can explain

Red dragon 1500 pulled approx 1600 lpm (air)
Red dragon 2000 pulled approx 2000+lpm (air)
Red dragon 2500 pulled approx 2500+ lpm (air)

My Red dragon pump pulled 50-55 lpm. I had the Red dragon 2000 on my BK400ext before. Captive Ocean has to give me th red dragon 2500 couple months later. The price on BK400ext now is $3099.

What is the price different between the Red dragon 2000 and Red dragon 2500?

Red dragon 2000 cost me $1279 shipped to my door
Red dragon 2500 cost $1500 shipped.

I don't mind you compare my skimmer with the new. The price will stay firm. Thank you all.

Great explanation Steve!

Personally, I would make it a gold fish tank before I let it go for less than 3k.
